margaret byrne
« on: Saturday 28 April 12 12:31 BST (UK) »
ok im hoping somebody can help me with a headache ive had for 2 years and one im no closer to solving.

ive been  trying to find any information on my great grandmother margaret byrne who was born dublin jan 1900 and with that being a popular name the next hit i had was her marriage to william murtagh and childrens dobs etc

any how i  applied for a copy of her death certificate wich doesnt even give me anything apart from age at death 65 and what she passed of so ive spent months trying to get a copy of her birth  certificate to be informed she doesnt exist i then applied for a marrige certificate and was informed theres was 2 weddings in the same district in different months with the same names so i guess i could apply for both but without her birth certificate im no closer to finding out who she actualy is.

was it possible she was adopted and bryne was her adoptive name also is it possible she lied about her name age when she got married?

i know to some i sound pretty dumb but its a long story and the reason for lack of details is the fact my mother grew up in childrens homes etc, margaret is my great grandmother.

first of all I'd allow a few years either way when checking for a birth - I wouldn't depend on the age on a death cert.

I think you first need to try the two marriage certs you mentioned to check for possible clues to connect to later details - e.g. father's names, residences of the bride and groom, occupations, names of witnesses etc.

Do you have birth certs for Margaret and William's children ?
If so they should show the place of birth etc, William's occupation etc

...

are these the marriage references you mention in your previous topic ?

  help understand family search etc

As Elwyn mentioned, this is not a possible marriage between a William Murtagh and a Margaret Byrne, since they appear on two separate pages. For a possible marriage match, the page, volume year/quarter and district have to be the same.

I would sort out the marriage first, before starting a search for a possible birth. Otherwise with a surname as common as Byrne it's very likely you would end up tracing the wrong family.

hi shane

ive just downloaded the forms to apply for 2 of her childrens birth certificates and yes them are the marriages i thought was the margaret i was looking for so you can see where the confusion lies.

i put a letter in when i applied for certain certificates explaining what i new and why the lack of information etc and still got no further.

2 of margarets children had military back ground im currently waiting to hear back from that hoping i can get a little bit further.

what year was the eldest child of William and Margaret born ?

This will help narrow down possible marriages.
