Thomas Cummins ROGERS Napoleonic War 1793-1815
« on: Monday 30 April 12 14:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
Hoping some one can help find info on
Thomas Cummins ROGERS, Pursers Steward 1803, Napoleonic War 1793-1815

He married Frances NATT in 1817 Rainham Kent

Found 2 Children born Portmouth Southampton
Mary Frances ROGERS 1818
Robert Alfred ROGERS 1820
I believe he was in the Royal Marine Artillery.
Looking for other children born to Thomas and Frances.
I cannot find anything for any of the family on any census in England.
Is there anyway to trace if he was posted to another Country??
Thanks Leonie

NATT: Kent & Australia
HOUGH: Derbyshire & Australia
SEYMOUR: Chelsea London & Australia
AISH: Dorset & Australia
WALTERS/WALTER: South Australia & Victoria

Hi Leonie
Is this still an active query? If so I think I can fill in a lot of the missing pieces for you now that your message has cleared up some key things for me.  What's more the action all takes place in Australia after 1836!

Regards
John b.1947 son of Rogers

Hi Ken
Thanks I had found the Will.
Hi John very interested in making contact with you. I know that a Thomas and Fanny ROGERS and family arrived in South Australia in 1836 but have been trying to prove that she is Fanny NATT and he is Thomas Cummins ROGERS.
Regards Leonie

Hello Leonie
I met Bob B today for coffee and we talked this over.  I believe Bob will contact you again shortly.  I think we're all keen to satisfy ourselves about who's who in this poorly documented shadow land. Why oh why is there only one record for Thomas Cummins Rogers in the NA database?  I'd like to think we can validate the Rogers = Natt connection as it seems to me to fit.
btw, have you come across Mary Natt = John Rogers at Toft, Cambridgeshire 31 Jan 1814.  I did wonder if there was a chance we could be looking at brothers and sisters, but William and Fanny Natt do not seem to have produced a Mary?
Regards
John

Thanks John
Yes the NATT-ROGERS connection does seem to fit but it is proving hard to validate.
I do believe that there would be more records for Thomas Cummins ROGERS at the National Archives but someone has to go there and search for them.
I did come across the NATT-ROGERS marriage in 1814 and also the christening and census records for a John Natt ROGERS ba 1816-1819 Abbott Ripton, Huntingdonshire, but have not connected them to my NATT family in Kent.
I believe that William NATT remarried after his first wife Fanny died in 1810 and had a Mary  ba 1814 who married 17 May 1840 at St Alphege Greenwich Kent to Manley George Devarris HALL, Ensign in the 14 Regt. His father is listed as Henry Boone HALL a Major in the Army and her father is listed as William NATT Warden of Chatham Dockyards. The Boone HALL name seems to be linked to Jamaica.
All we can do is keep digging away, something will turn up.
Cheers Leonie

Leonie
I believe that the 2 St Thomas, Portsmouth baptismal records for a Mary Frances cr.1818 and Robert Alfred cr.1820 with father Thos. Cummins Rogers and mother Frances puts it beyond the bounds of co-incidence that it was indeed Thomas Cummins and Frances Mary (nee Natt) Rogers who emigrated to Australia in 1836 with these two children and the rest of their family.

John

Yes I do agree John.
Why did he stop using the Cummins in his name??
It would have made it so much easier if he continued to use it when he got to Australia.
Cheers Leonie
