With the rank of Guardsman he would have been in a work camp attached to Stalag 344. Perhaps the number given was that of the work camp.

The whole camp was evacuated westwards in January 1945 and was later filled with POW from BAB 20 and others.

The published lists of POW are dated 1945 which is not the location of prisoners at that time, it is the date the lists were compiled.
This includes those on Ancestry.

Thankyou for that!
I have a problem with TJ.
I don't know if it is 'my' T J Brockbank, and I can't find any death records for him anywhere.
How can I find out if this POW was/is my relation?
Could he still possibly be alive?

I feel that the easiest way to find out if he was related would be if he made a Report when Liberated. Unfortunately not all former POW did. There also seems to have been a smaller percentage of Military POW than RAF who did make such a report.

Given in almost all is name, rank, No. Home address and former occupation. Such a report IF one was made should tell you all you need to know.

WO 344/41/1 is the File at the UK National Archives that would need to be checked.

Thankyou again.
I am trying to get a copy now. Thankfully they are free to download.
We have just found a another TJ Brockbank, so hoping this information will determine the correct one.

I think you will find the file has to be checked physically and only the description is online.
This is the only way to find out if he made a report or not. I am afraid as there is no Index to individual reports.

There are several hundred reports in my database but unfortunately none from this File.

Unfortunately there was no POW Liberation Report made by a T J Brockbank, just Tpr R W and one by Fus A Brockbanks.
