MaryVale Orphanage
« on: Monday 30 April 12 16:42 BST (UK) »
I am getting desperate trying to find a photo of this orphanage where my great uncle's children would have been placed maybe as early as 1912 but most definitely by 1915 as their father and mother were both dead by then.

I was also wondering if anyone knew how I could find out information this institution. Does anybody know if the records are on line somewhere? I am sick of googling in the name and coming up with nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The convent was on Old Oscott Hill, and I know it became an orphanage in 1851.
Thanks all

Can't tell you much about it but my great-aunt was a Nun-teacher there and would have been at that time too.

I only visited once and that would have been in the early 1950s and I was very young.

Thank you all so much for helping me out on this one. I love the photographs and I will try the Birmingham Archives to see if they have admission records. It's fascinating to think that my orphans may have been taught by Dudley's great aunt!
I know the eldest left there when he was 17 to go to Canada and he gave the orphanage as the address of next of kin - his sister would have been 14. Do you know what kind of education they received Dudley? I know the boys had industrial training but what about the girls?
I will also try and find Saint Chad's archive.
Thanks again. Much appreciated  :)
