Sy... that looks like a wonderful website, thank you. I'll certainly spend some time studying it over the coming holiday weekend.

Jamjar... the other children were (all born Liverpool):

Sarah Jane
Elizabeth
Janet
George
Frank
Mary Ann
Elizabeth (again)
and the rather lengthy William Gibson Robertson (it seems a habit at times that the family throw in a previous surname as part of a christian name (which, of course, is an intrigue to an amateur genealogist!)).

Thanks also for the census information - more for me to study further...

If any of your Kerrs migrated to Liverpool (or if anyone else's reading did) let me know and I'll certainly work with you in return.

This is my Kerr family.

I have a funny feeling that there is a connection with your's, but it's only a feeling.

I also had this in my files. It is from the 1841 census for Dumfries.

I had wondered if it was a brother of my Janet Kerr. My Janet's father is the George mentioned on the headstone, husband of Christina Burgess.

That's the one... the Christina Saunders is the daughter born in Dumfries and now on her second marriage (the first marriage being Strong, the other folks at Wolfe Street).

Fantastic, Jamjar, thanks again. I couldn't find that on Scotland's People, but the George name runs all the way through (and was also mentioned by a cousin of mine also chasing the Kerrs, though I've not seen any of his sources yet).

I've that same feeling that we might be distantly connected. Where is the grave located?

Keith, the headstone is in Lochmaben cemetery.

There were quite a few Kerr in the area and I think more than one George, but there is always the possibility that he is related.

Do you have their death certificates?

No, but as Francis and Janet died in England the certificate doesn't list parents anyway.

I'm just trying to get my head around your headstone inscription in terms of dates. Are you suggesting George married to Christine Burgess had a daughter Janet who might be a sister of my Francis? Or is there another generation in there - ie George died in 1808 before my Francis was born (1813 or so)... so is it...

George/Christina Burgess---- who have George, their son (born about 1790), who then has Francis and janet...

or am I reading that wrong?
