Have no information about the particular Routledges you are researching but there is a load of information about the Routledges from Bewcastle in the Dodgson Manuscript

www.rootsweb.com/~rutledge/DodgsonManuscript.htm

If this web site does not work type in "Dodgson Manuscript" on your search engine and look around that.

Hope this helps

Hi Sandra,
I sent you a personal message recently providing some info on John Routledge (1839).There is no record of this. Until I can fathom this blessed machine for the want of a more appropriate term, please let me know if you received it.

I have a copy of a letter to my Bewcastle Ancestor Archibald Armstrong from a George Routledge London County of Middlesex & District of London Upper Canada. Dated Jan 16th 1837. George was from Bewcastle. It sounds as if he is old enough to have been born in the later part of the 1700's.

He must have emigrated to Canada in the early 1800's. He is married to Jane Summers. Have 6 children, all boys. Has sisters Margaret & Mary and brother Allen. He also mentions Roby Summers, George Kennedy, James Nixon I think all from Bewcastle.
Is this any one's ancestor as I think they would find the letter interesting.
He also mentions John & Richard Routledge & John Dodgson of Roantrees.

Judy,
I realize this is an old post, but if you get my reply, I would LOVE to see a copy of this letter.  I know who all these people are.  I am a descendant of Roby (Robert) Summers who is Jane Summers' brother.  The whole Summers family emigrated from Bewcastle to London, Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1820. I actually visited London, Ont. some years back and got a lot of info on the Summers family there.  In July this year, we are traveling to the Cumberland area and I am doing research now on what to visit, and found your post looking for my Summers ancestors in Bewcastle.
