Kings Regiment / Oxford Bucks
« on: Wednesday 02 May 12 23:06 BST (UK) »
Hello to all,

Hopefully someone can help me, my GF was in the kings regiment/ Oxford bucks Mr William j Wright.

He unfortunately died before I was born, and never spoke about his war days with my dad, but I am interested in finding out where he served throughout WW2.

I don't really know much more information, so if anyone could help it would be appreciated

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon and welcome to Rootschat :)

You might find this link useful (Soldiers of Oxfordshire): www.sofo.org.uk

I had a quick look for your your grandad and there are quite a few William WRIGHTs, including 3 William James WRIGHTs and 1 William John WRIGHT.  If you know what the J stands for, and/or you know his rank and/or regimental number, the SofO website enquiry service is your best bet.

I'm also linking this thread to your Beginners Board thread to avoid duplication of effort.

Good luck :)

Hi Jon,

I haven't needed to send a specific enquiry to SofO myself, so I'll be interested to hear how you get on with them.  They might also be able to tell you whether the King's Regiment records are available.

In the meantime, would you like to discover more about your grandad apart from his military career?  Just a few more facts would help us to help you.  Did he come from Oxfordshire - where/when was he born - his full name - anything else you know about him would be useful.

All the best,
Carol
