Hi

Apart from the info you have, which is correct, is that William was a labourer.

Hi Geoff

Yes, on the 1851 Census it shows Ag. Labourer born 1777 in Borrowash, Derby.
Sarah born 1782 in Swarkeston washerwoman.

Is there a way of getting a printout or copy of this record ?

and will it give info on the parents etc....

Thank you for your help
Barbara

Hi Barbara

I'll send you a PM with the details, but they are basic.

I'm not sure whether Derbyshire archives will have more to offer, this link may help.

Hi

There is an influencing factor that I've come across, Barton/Burton, notwithstanding other possible transcription errors.

Borrowash appears to be part of the parish of Spondon and Ockbrook, if William was born in Borrowash it may not be his baptismal place and vice versa, especially if he was baptised some time after his birth.

Here are a few of long shots...

Source, St Werburgh, Derby:
31 May 1779 Thomas Burton, serving-man & Sarah Child, mar.

Source, Ockbrook PR:
4 Dec 1780 Thomas Burton & Ann Barlow, mar.

Source, Mackworth PR:
12 Jun 1760 Richard Burton of St Werburgh & Catherine Room, mar.
31 Dec 1782 John Burton, P. All Saints, Derby & Sarah Dickenson, mar.

Meercat's find looks very plausible given the 1851 census entry, though worth remembering it is a submitted entry. The following is also interesting and may be a relative, even Sarah's grandfather.
Source, Swarkeston PR:
20 Jan 1738 Stephen Foster & Ann Clewer, both of this P., mar.

Geoff

Borrowash was part of the Parish of Ockbrook, Borrowash did not have a Church of England  presence until around 1889-90 when the Chapel of St Stephen was built.People from Borrowash used Ockbrook as their parish church.
