Thank you Claire Jan and Rena
that was my initial thought but I was hoping it was Givan
when I looked at the way the registrar writes his W's M's and R's
I thought the middle letters dont resemble his other R's

Hi
I read it as Givan or Cuwan  although Curran is also another reading but the middle letters do not look the "r" s elsewhere nor the "n" in Francis.

The first letter could be read as either "C" or "G"

I've downloaded and enlarged the image and looked specifically at the discernable words containing the letter "i" in order that it can be compared with "Curran"/"Givan" which doesn't appear to contain an "i".

It can be seen that the writer's "dots" are on the same angle/alignment as the rest of the letter and one of the two dots looks quite like a tear drop.  Thus when I looked again at the word which I initially saw as "Curran", I now agree that the dot could be part of what looks like a very stylalised "v" in "Givan".
