1831 census how can you dig deeper

I have been looking at Bill Macafee's transcript of 1831 census for Derry - but if you look at original document will it give any more detail - how do you know if the Patrick McKenn you are looking for is the right one if there are 20 of them??

There are few details in 1831 census- under each townland there will be name, number of males/females, number of male/female servants, and religious breakdown of household (E.C.= Established Church, R.C., Presbyterian, other). There is no way to tell from the information which might be a particular person.

What survives for 1831 is not the original census but extracted figures copies out in 1834. Originally the census included every member of household (name, age, occupation, religion, relationship to head), agreage held.
