Tiltman - Rye, Susex

Hi

I'm trying to find what happened to my Great-Great Grandparents Edward Tiltman and Emma Levitt.

Edward Tiltman was born 1858 in Rye (parents John William Tiltman and Elizabeth Caroline Relf). Emma Levitt was born 1854 in Northiam (parents John Levitt and Hester Dengate).

Edward and Emma married 8th April 1877 in Rye. Edward was a Porter - Tallow Chandler on the 1881 census.

They had two children, both in Rye - Mary Ann Tiltman 1880 and Caroline (Cara) Elizabeth Tiltman 1882.

Both girls appear on the 1891 census at a Home for Little Girls, in Brides Cottage, Willingdon, Sussex, and together in London on the 1901 census.

I can find no trace of what happened to Edward and Emma. I've checked all possible deaths, remarriages, wills, etc, and cannot find anything.

To complicate things further, their girls changed their names at a whim, and I'm wondering if their mother may have done the same?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat 

I have searched High & Low for for Edward & Emma & could only find them on the 1881.No deaths etc

I hav`nt even been able to find the Girls on the 1891 & 1901 on FindMyPast.
Can you give to census referance number or Head of Household ?

They really are elusive,are`nt they.

I tried searching just using their Christian names & ages & not putting any County Name,still nothing.

Sorry i hav`nt been of any help.

PS,while googling Tiltman i found a couple of FTs.They gave Edward dying in 1905 but did`nt say where
