Hi Murray,

I don't think they tie up with my Buchanan's who were mostly fishermen. Although I had an Archibald Buchanan who married a Jane Donaldson in 02 December 1825, but my records do not show a David as one of their children.

Hi Tom, do you happen to no who Archibald Buchanan parents are?. My David's B children were bapts at St Cuthberts Edinburgh so moved out of Haddington

1841 Census lived at Priestinch, West Lothina
1851   "                    Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire

Occupations labourer, Blacksmith & Engineer

Interesting to note that in my tree a couple of generations later Davids B grandson was named John Donaldson Buchanan. So im not sure if we are connected. You haven't by chanced looked at the Haddingtion registers!
Cheers

Hi Murray,

I will pm you, I will give you access to my tree online, but need your email address so will do it on pm.
When you see my tree Archibald Buchanan is quite common, I have 15 of them. As I said most stayed near the fishing port of Cockenzie and Port Seton.

Hi Murray,

I have searched on FreeReg, and your David spelt or misspelt his surname as Buchannan, on his marriage banns to Isabella Barrie, so will need to watch because FreeReg is a very narrow search and I had to use the double "n" to get his banns.  In fact, Ann and Margaret used Buchannan on their banns too. This may have been a problem caused by the church, as some of mines were give the double "n" at times, but FreeReg does not give you a wide search returning the two alternatives.

Have you any brothers or sisters for David as I could not find a baptism either, may have to use them to get parents.

Tom

Thanks Tom, i thought it was a typo on behalf of the church!, other records give the correct spelling. Sorry no I dont have any brothers and sisters to David. I dont have Davids death either! i no he died after the 1851 census and before 1873 when his wife died in Jul 1873 at Queensferry and was listed as a widow. David and Isabella had from what I've put togther twin sons John and George Buchanan born 1826 followed by David in 1827. It looks as though they went to Edinburgh as his children were bapt at St Cuthberts
Sorry i can t be of anymore help. Perhaps a death cert for David might provide some more clues a.

Cheers
Murray
