Mary Pilkington, Birr, Kings County 1879?
« on: Saturday 12 May 12 07:39 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am looking for information on a Mary Pilkington who was a niece of John Kenny (or his wife Bridget Reynolds).  I don't know if Pilkington is a maiden or married name. In 1879 she lived at New Bridget Street, Birr, Kings County.  Is anyone able to help?

Thanks
Robyn

maybe that address should be Newbridge St. which is in the south of the town..

You would probably need to establish a bit more details on the Kenny/Reynolds family to try to see how Mary fit's in - e.g. do you have marriage  details for John and Bridget ?

Hi Shane

No we are at a dead end with John and Bridget.  They are in the 1851 census in Kent but have no idea when they married and can't find his military records - he was a sapper.  They came to Perth Australia in 1851.  There was a letter forwarded to the police in Perth with a note from a Mary Pilkington asking them to find her uncle John Kenny so thought I'd try that angle to find their ancestry.
Thanks
Robyn

Griffiths Valuation shows a Mary Pilkington at New Bridge, Parsonstown (old name for Birr) in 1854 - might be the same person or a relation... and there are also extracted births for the surname in the area between 1864 and 1881, and also extracted civil Marriages, which date back before 1864 - which suggests that at least some of the Pilkington family were non-Catholic :

Pilkington records in Birr Civil parish on Griffith's Valuation

    Pilkington extracted births Parsonstown
    Pilkington extracted marriages Parsonstown

Hi Shane

Thanks.
I also found a 1901 Irish census which puts her at 75 and Catholic and lists husband and family.

Hi
I don't know if my Mary had Pilkington as a maiden or married name.  She was the niece of either John Kenny or Bridget Reynolds who were married and came to Perth in 1851.  Is she your Mary?
