1870 census lookup please
« on: Friday 20 May 05 15:56 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking for a George England who was born around 1861 in Pancras London.
His father was called John England and he was a tiler.

I can find no trace of him in the English census around 1871, nor in the 1861.
Also I have not been able to find a birth entry.

However I have found him in the English 1901 census in Edmonton London, and with him a possible sister who was born in "Jersey Brooklyn NY".

Is it possible John emigrated to America when George was a baby and then had more family there?

Any help would be gratefully received.  :-\

Hi Linda

I don't know if this would be of interest to you - but this is the only listing I could find with all of your criterior (?) Don't forget sometimes people take jobs that are available etc........ !

1870

1698 (? no Street ) Newtown Queens NY

John England 80 Gardener England
Mary England 36 Keeping house Ireland
Mary England 14 b. New York
Thomas England 12 b. New York
George England 10 b. New York
William England 8 b. New York

which means George was born in US not England do you have a birth cert ? you didn't state the name of the sister so..... it's a shot in the dark - but if it seems likely I have the image - pm me your email address

Hello Annie,

Thanks for the lookup.

Does the census really say that John was 80!

Unfortunately according to the 1901 census George's sister wasn't born until 1874. You don't happen to have the 1880 census do you? ;D

Her name was Catherine.

Maybe a coincidence but George had two children by 1901................one called William (11) the other ..................Thomas (2) my grandfather.

If you could find a catherine it would look more likely.

Thanks again for your effort.

OK Annie,

Thanks for your help.

Really it was a fishing expedition, but it would have been nice to turn something up.
