I could be WAY off track.... Only posting this info so I don't misplace it.

COULD BE  (but I am not sure, some differences from that cutting) William J with dad as John and mum as Amelia L, and registered at Ryde in  1905 ....
So  perhaps a marriage (different surname for bride )   Amelia STOLTENHOFF, and John B WILSON, registered at Hunters Hill (next to Gladesville) in 1903

I have NOT found Jane or John WILSON on the electoral roll for the polling places that covered Gladesville/Ryde/Hunters Hill in 1903.  I haven’t looked for Amelia.

Cheers,  JM

Interesting, John's wife was Amelia Louise Curran! They married in Launceston 1892, 11 May so wondering if he entered there in Tassie but Wilson is very common name! Their children were; William James and John Ernest.

Some thoughts

Are you sure the 1941 dc is your chap?

Apart from that 1941 dc, do you have confirmation of the names of his parents on any other official document or private family papers etc?

I am just concerned about how certain you are that his mum came to Australia either with him or separately (before / after  him).    It is possible that the information on the 1941 dc was provided by someone who was relying on their own memory when they stated he had been here for 55 years.  If a close family member provided that information then it was given at a time of grief, and also perhaps when they were concentrating on comforting other close family members rather than answering questions posed to them by the funeral director.   So, it is possible that the person who provided the info re 55 years ... well their attention was to their grieving family members and to making sure the arrangements were being attended to properly.

I am NSW centric so I am not familiar with Tasmania Records, sorry.

I am having some difficulties sorting out various John WILSON with Amelia in the NSW 1913 rolls.   It is the popularity of his surname  :)

Cheers,  JM

Yes John Wilson died at the age of 71yrs at Prince alfred Hospital Camperdown Sydney 11th July 1941 his  son Wiliam James was informant, his occupation at death was Bricklayer. DC states born at Little Bolton Lancaster England and that he had been in Colonies for 55yrs could be wrong. Where as on the DC of Jane Wilson (nee Hill) it states in the colonies 38yrs her death was 13 jan 1917 buried at Rookwood has her marriage at 19 to a John Wilson? But on other original marriage cert states William marriage date 25 Dec 1852.
Regarding the marriage of John Wilson and Amelia Curran yes you are right it was same date but in Balmain, NSW not Tassie sorry my mistake.

Thanks,

Fran

Well we know that the information on Jane's death cert was wrong. Died 1917 in colonies for 38 years meant her arrival would have been 1879 but we know she was on the 1881 census with her husband and children.

John's date of arrival is more plausible - 1890.

More searching to be done
