Adam SMITH - 1901 Census of Ireland
« on: Saturday 19 May 12 07:35 BST (UK) »
Is anyone researching Adam Smith (92), a farmer and his wife Catherine (76) and children John (45) and Jane (25) of Derryrahan (Newparton, Fermanagh)? My great grandmother Grace Thompson (nee Hurst) was a visitor in their home when the 1901 Census of Ireland was taken.

For reference here's the 1901 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Fermanagh/Newparton/Derryrahan/1353211

Son John in 1911-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Fermanagh/Newporton/Derryraghan/519299
"Smith John of Derryrahan county Fermanagh retired farmer died 26 May 1924 Probate Londonderry 23 July to James Hamilton Coalter and John Robert Brien farmers. Effects £389 17s. 9d." see www.proni.gov.uk

Possibly related? birthplaces of William's children quite interesting:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Fermanagh/Newporton/Derryraghan/519297

Possibly this couple-
Adam Smith married 16 Aug.1848 Catherine Smith. Daughter Jane born 8 Mar.1864 Tempo district, Fermanagh (page 59 in civil register)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Many thanks for the extra research.

I also found this in Griffiths Valuation
Grace grew up in Ballyreagh (where her father James farmed land) and after her marriage in 1861 lived in Killcloghy, which was sold in 1895 and in 1906 Grace migrated to New South Wales, Australia

There is about a 12 year discrepancy in year of birth if that is the same daughter Jane - perhaps Jane aged 25 is the second daughter in that family who was called Jane OR perhaps 25 is the age she would like to be!
