Ruby Smith - Hitchin Area Lookup please
« on: Saturday 19 May 12 11:41 BST (UK) »

Hello all,
I'm trying to firm up a birth for a Ruby Smith born between 1905 and 1920 in the Hertfordshire area.
Most of the brothers and sisters where born in the Hitchin area. Her parents were William James Smith b12/10/1881 in Islington London England and Mary Jane Smith nee Smith b18/02/1885 in Weston, Hertfordshire. Married 25/12/1905 in HITCHIN Hertfordshire England.
There are a few could be's but can't sure and wondered id if anyone could tie into bap records which would indicate parents names,, this would help buying the cert to be less of a gamble.
Unfortunately I know nothing else of Ruby.

Thank you in advance

From 1912 (actually sometime in 1911?) Mother's Maiden Name appears on the indexes - free to view on FreeBMD.

There is no Ruby Smith, mmn Smith mentioned.

So that leaves (Hertfordshire births):

June qtr 1905
Watford district
Smith, Ruby Elsie

June qtr 1909
Edmonton district
Smith, Ruby Charlotte

March qtr 1911
Royston district
Smith, Ruby A
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you very much for that.
Unfortunately there are 8 other siblings and 05, 09 & 11 are all gaps. So all three could be possibles. Although the 05 would mean she was carrying when Mary married William married, so a little less likely. 1911 is the bigger gap, so probably the best gamble on the birth cert.
I was kinda hoping that if she was baptised then the parents names would be included on the register.
thank you again for helping to narrow down the possibles
:O)
