David, when you go attach an image on a post, you will see the following on the screen re restrictions. If you would like to keep to a size of up 500k for every image, suggest you post each image in a separate post:

I've just found this discussion which is such an insight into those days. My great-great grandfather William Rattray Allan was born in 49 Pomarium in 1855. I am in the process of discovering if he later became Lord Provost of Perth as we have a photo of him in full regalia.

Hi Richard

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Was there more than one William with that full name? This here details one with an 1858 birth https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C10070999

Added: www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQL4-GDD  must be the same William (not just women who can loose some years along the way  ::)). Same day and month, just year is different (1858 v. 1855).

Monica

One paper's report of his death gives some background for him (Dundee Courier 7 August 1933):

Apparently my 4th Great Grandfather was born in Pomarium St, Perthshire, Scotland.

This was Peter Patrick BARRIE in 12 JAN 1798
