Yes, from my own information and Johnny D's comment, it makes sense that it was a hospital with a maternity ward.

The birth would have been pre-NHS (started in 1948?).
As such, the Hospital, which was previously Kingston Workhouse, would have had links in people's minds to the workhouse.

A new, larger, nurses home was built in 1928 to the weat of the hospital, with a lodge at the entrance from Wolverton Avenue.

The old infirmary was renamed Kingston & District Hospital in 1920.
The old workhouse was integrated with this hospital in 1948.

There must have been a maternity ward there in October 1947, pre-NHS. I would have thought probably a hospital by then.

Apparently, Kingston Hospital was separated from the workhouse in 1902, and named Kingston Infirmary, and then in 1920 renamed Kingston and District Hospital because the word "infirmary" was inextricably linked with the Poor Law and pauperism.
