Please Help - Unknown Coat of Arms
« on: Tuesday 22 May 12 15:47 BST (UK) »
HI there, I've come across a coat of arms on a 1785 Candle Stick Holder, Assayed in London. Has the makers mark of WB - William Bennet. Also has a cone shape thing!

It has a snuffer - with a crest: which looks like the 'Clark' Crest - The Clark crest is a falcon!

The coat of arms is barely see able but i can make out the details of it. It's been rubbed away! But i drew out the coat of arms (sorry for my terrible drawing)

Would anyone be able to identify the Coat of Arms for me please?

Cross - Of christain significance. May also refer to families who engaged in the crusades.
Fish - Of regal origin, one of high nature.
Horse - Readiness for duty.

I'm not sure what those 3 rectangles symbolise and I don't know what the bow symbolizes.

Regards,

First things first.
There is no such thing as THE Clark grest or coat-of-arms! ;D

Many Clark people would have been granted arms - you are only entitled to use the one to which you are definitely related.

OK. Rant over! ::)

The crosses you drew are Cross Pommee - arms ending in a ball.
The fish are Hauriant - vertical.

"Tied ribbon" (meaning an unmarried woman) was explained last year in the news-

True - but women's arms are usually displayed on a lozenge, rather than a shield?
Heraldry is very sexist!! ;D
