Walter Hewitt.
« on: Saturday 26 May 12 11:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Am trying to confirm the name of Walter Hewitt's wife. Walter was born in Hertfordshire in 1774 & married either a Mary or an Elizabeth (possibly Johnson). His daughter Sarah was baptised in Shenley,Herts 07/10/1804 & her mother is named Mary. However on 08/10/1798,according to the FamilySearch.org website,Walter Hewitt married Elizabeth Johnson in Abbots Langley,Herts, which is about 10 miles from Shenley. Walter & Elizabeth went on to have at least four children, all baptised in Shenley or Chipping Barnet. There are no further children recorded for Walter & Mary Hewitt. I wonder if Sarah's mother's name has been recorded as Mary in error & should in fact be Elizabeth?
I have been unable to trace Walter or his wife in 1841,although he did not die until 1846 in Barnet. I cannot trace a Mary Hewitt either but an Elizabeth Hewitt did die in Barnet Q1 1854.  I am going to order both D/Cs next week, hopefully they might provide some answers. Until then can anyone help?

Regards

Coreen

Hi Peter,

Thanks - yes I saw that. I think the name of Sarah Hewitt's mother has been recorded incorrectly on her baptism records as Mary. I'm fairly certain it should be Elizabeth. I'm just trying to confirm that.
