Hi,
Can someone please tell me what "Weebine" was,  after what seemed liked years of searching for an ancestors death record in Edinburgh I recently found it (yippee!!!) but I now have another puzzle.
The cause of death is given as 'weebine',  there were 2 other deaths recorded on the same page listing 'weebine' as the cause of death for them too, in each case the deceased was male.
So apparently it wasn't that uncommon in 1839.   I've tried to search online but had no success, read through 'old' termonolgy for illnesses, again no joy.   His age at death was 65 years.
Hope someone can answer this puzzle for me.

Thank you everyone for your input.   I have been reminded that I am not always right when it comes to reading handwritting, as I have been shown and am grateful for your kindness.

It might be useful if we could see the word, so can you post a section of the death certificate? Also the others on the same page if possible? I wonder if you may have misread or misinterpreted the word ...

Not at all - you may be right Hibee, and until we get a look at the word all we can do it guess what it may be.  :)

I don't know that such a word as Weebine exists, not in a medical sense anyway (but I may be shot down after that statement too  ;)).

I suspect a letter or two in the word is causing confusion. I am also wondering if may have been an epidemic if others on the page have the same cause of death.

I am really interested to see the word for myself.  :) I know the copies on SP can be pretty difficult to read.

Thanks everyone,
I'm happy a wee chuckle to myself - it's not often someone can put up a question that can stump others as well.
Will find the document and post it.

........ without a doubt.    Unless of course it looks like the second image!

 ;D

So, ukip, are these the actual images Abygail is questioning, or they just a couple you managed to dig up? Amazing, that the second one actually does seem to read Weebine! Is this from a Scottish death certificate?
