Shrewsbury
« on: Monday 28 June 04 16:36 BST (UK) »
My ggggrandfather, Charles SIMM was born in Shrewsbury about 1776. I believe he was married there and had one son George. He later moved to Lancashire where I have done most of my research. My question is how do I look for the record of his birth and marriage since they occured before the 1837 date? bookbuff

Hi, im not sure if this is any help but i have found that checking the christening records helps alot as it also gives the parents name.

If you cannot get to shrewsbury to check the actual parish records try the
www.familysearch.org, you can get christenings and marrige records going back to the 1600's.

Also try the IGI site
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#PageTitle
it allows you to search through the batch numbers, very helpful.

Have you tryed the Shropshire Look Up Exchange you might find someone with the parish records for that area.  Good luck with your searching :)

Thanks so much for your reply. I was unaware that I could check through IGI batch numbers. I live in USA so I will have to check with the local Family History Center next time I go.
