Hogan family
« on: Tuesday 29 May 12 20:49 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to find out information on my great-grandmother, Beatrice Hogan.  She came to the US in the early 1900s.  Her immigration records list her father as Michael Hogan, who lives in Lusmagh, Banagher, King's County (Offaly), Ireland.  When I searched the Irish Census, I found a Michael Hogan living there, but not with any child named Beatrice.  In fact, I cannot find anybody named Beatrice Hogan in either the 1901 or 1911 census, who is around the same age.  Perhaps Beatrice was her middle name.  We think that she was born around 1896.

She died in a car crash in 1938, when my grandfather was a small child.  We believe she had a brother named John.  We cannot locate any information on her, but are very curious.

I realize that Hogan is a very common name, but I thought I might ask if you have ever seen anything about her.  Or, if you have any tips on searching in Offaly County, that would be greatly appreciated.  I appreciate your time.

Thank you in advance,

Anna

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  :)

You will notice I have split and moved your post to the Offaly board.

Ellis Island site has two entries for Beatrice Hogan- have you found that?

May 3rd 1913 aboard The Cedric

passenger no 6 going to brother John Hogan , Rochester NY - last place of residence Banagher
passenger no 29 going to sister Annie Hogan, Rochester NY- last place of residence Lismagh

I thought it may be the same person entered twice but the physical description is different.
In both cases father is Michael and his residence is Banagher and Lismagh.

This looks to be the family in 1911

and in 1901

I would think that Beatrice is Bridget  :-\

Wow!  Thank you so much!  I had seen the records for Beatrice for Ellis Island and the census, but I had not seen anything on Annie!  That helps a lot...what a great lead to connect everyone!  I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your help!!  Amazing!
