Hi,

I found a family tree on Ancestry which indicated a baptism date of 23/Sept/1763 for Mary Ticehurst, daughter of Joseph & Mary.  The tree also indicates another son, James, baptised 14/Jun/1776.  Not necessarily the most accurate source but it provides a good marker.

I'm imagining the John Ticehurst that married Mary Byne on 17/May/1767 was probably the brother of Joseph.

Many thanks yet again!

Regards,
Chris

Goodmorning Chris

 I found Catherine & Agnes

Agnes Maria,Baptised at Dallington,15 Mar 1840

Battle,St Mary
Catherine Ellen,28 Nov 1838

Abode,Uckfield.

I checked the Baptisums you found on Ancestry Tree, they are all correct.

Do the people have any idea of Joseph & Mary`s marriage ?

Kind Regards

Thank you.

The Ancestry trees have run out of steam by the time they reach Joseph Ticehurst.  They do indicate a burial date of 8/Jul/1795 at St Mary Battle but no other details.

Joseph's son John born 1782 died in Battle in 1839 I believe.  The son Joseph died 1849, James died 1846, both also in Battle.

Hello Chris and Omega,

I've been following this thread with interest as I have a Ticehurst in my ancestry.

Chris, am wondering if your branch has any connections to the Ticehurst family from Catsfield?

Per the 1851 census, Elizabeth Williams (nee Ticehurst) was born in Catsfied @1804-1805.  I understand that the baptismal records for that period in Catsfield no longer exist so I'm trying to find some other way of determining who her parents were.

Jann

Hi Jann,

Sorry, I haven't discovered an Elizabeth Ticehurst c. 1804-05 from Catsfield just yet.  I'll get back in touch if I find anything from this village.  I do recollect one of my Ticehurst women marrying a Williams but I think it would have been a generation or two later than the timeframe you're looking at.    I'll trace through and try to find the Ticehurst/Williams couple over the weekend.

I just check the LDS website and their catalogue indicates they hold copies of the Catsfield parish register as well as bishop's transcripts.  The parish registers cover the period 1780-1812 for baptism and burials, 1754-1813 for marriages and banns.

Chris

Hi Jann,

I have had a quick look for a baptism of Elizabeth Ticehurst in Catsfield, but there is nothing in the correct time period. There is however a baptism for an Elizabeth, daughter of James and Sarah Ticehurst, at Bexhill St Peter on 03.03.1805. She was born 17.01.1805.

Hope this is of some help.

Chris,

Thanks for the info re: LDS records I'll check the website and order the appropriate records.

Lesley,

I have the Bexhill baptism in my list of "possibles".  The person providing info to the '51 census taker may have been mistaken.  Unfortunately Elizabeth died before the '61 census.

Thanks to both,

Jann

Sorry to jump on your thread but can anyone shed any light on the family of James TICEHURST and Elizabeth APTOT of Ringmer in the late 1600s? The old and new IGI sites have inconsistant and iffy records but a combined summary of them is:-

Marr 1682 James TICEHURST & Elizabeth APTOT
Bapt 18 Nov 1683 James APTOT s of James TICEHURST & Elizabeth APTOT
Bapt 21 Nov 1685 John APTOT s of James TICEHURST & Elizabeth APTOT
Bapt 24 Apr 1688 Elizabeth TICEHURST d of James & Elizabeth
Bapt 31 May 1691 William TICEHURST s of James & Elizabeth

The 1682 marriage on the old IGI site looks iffy to me, although it could represent an entry in the banns I suppose. What became of James and John APTOT; did they keep the APTOT surname or switch to TICEHURST? Elizabeth married a Nicholas CLARK and William married an Ann.

They have similar names to the Battle TICEHURSTS so perhaps there is a connection somewhere?
