Hello Chris

What an interesting FT you have .

I clicked on the Link. Battle High Street etc has hardly changed.not to far from where i live.

I looked through Battle Baptisums the long way :)

Could this be your William, note the spelling.

William Tisehurst 18 Jun 1769
Joseph Tisehurst 18 Jun 1769,died and buried 27 Sept 1771 :(

Sons of Joseph & Mary.

There was another son also Joseph baptised 7 May 1765 & died the following year.
Buried 7 Nov1766 :(

I cant find a Marriage for Joseph & Mary on the SMI.

I have looked again for Sophia Darby`s Baptisum but drawn a blank. The Surname Darby is not a very common in Sussex.

Regarding Your Darby lines,i have the same with the surname James & that is a real pain as they were Non Conformist & very secretive with their records. ???

I also found Thomas,Baptised 29 Feb 1804,son of William & Ann

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

Thanks again.  That could well be the correct William Ticehurst baptism, although it's interesting that the name Joseph hasn't trickled any further down his line of the family.  The 1851 census implies a 1768 birth year and states he was born in Battle.

Thanks also for the Thomas Ticehurst baptism date which now completes the set.

Chris

That would be very kind of you.

I have found another reference to the Joseph & Mary Ticehurst family group on Ancestry.  They list a few more children including a daughter called Mary who apparently married a chap called John Isted..

Now, the 1851 census return for William & Ann showed that they had two children staying with them at the time, two nieces called Anna and Georgianna.  Their surname is difficult to read but it looks like Simms.  Both children were born in Sussex.  I was hoping that the children were going to belong to William's sister but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I would be very interested to hear if you find anything to do with William's first wife Sophia, particularly if it gave some clue where she originated from.

Many thanks, these inputs are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Chris

Thank you.

Really useful things are headstones, especially if they have a little more detail than the usual sentiments!

The 1851 census return was possibly in error.  I think the two children were granddaughters of William & Ann Ticehurst, not nieces as stated.  William & Ann had a daughter called Ann born 1805 and I reckon it was her who married this Edmund Simes chap.

Were Rowland John and Charlotte Augusta children of Edmund and Ann Simes?  Where were they baptised?

I would be pleased to pass across my Ticehurst family tree if you're at all interested.  It's become quite an extensive family.

Chris

That's great.

I found the family's 1851 census....they were living in Dallington at that time.  There were also two additional children Catherine (1839, Uckfield)  and Agnes (1840, Dallington).
