Where is the parish list?--Castletownroche
« on: Friday 01 June 12 01:03 BST (UK) »
This board has a note at the top--See parish list within.  I'm sure I'm missing it but where is that parish list?

I am seeking information about Castletownroche where my Gorman and Quinlan ancestors were from.  I do have a fair amount from the usual sources already but am always looking for more. Thanks.

The list at the top of some boards is of civil parishes. What denomination of parish are you looking for -  RC, or Church of Ireland ?

The town and townland of Castletownroche is in the Civil parish also named Castletownroche, and close to Fermoy. Civil parishes generally correspond to Church of Ireland parishes.

The Catholic parish for the area is also named Castletownroche, and this covered about 6 civil parishes.

There are some details on the town and civil parish in Samuel Lewis' directory of 1837 - see : Castletownroche

I'm with Alison 55 on this.

The board for Cork says "See parish list within".

I too have never been able to find the parish list on the Cork board.

Regards

Suds

I think the list was too big to include in the space available - it looks like there are over 100 civil parishes in the county.

Just curious then--Why does it say "See parish list within" if there is no parish list?  Perhaps they should remove this so people don't spend time looking for it.

And thanks Shanew147. I do have that information already. I'm seeking more info about both civil and RC parishes of Castletownroche.

Thanks very much. I do have the ever-helpful Irish Times info.  I guess what I meant was that I thought you could do a search by parish here.  Sorry for the confusion.
