Help with recognising this uniform
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 17:15 BST (UK) »
Hi this is a photograph of my grandfather George Francis Grice 1885 - 1927.
Can anyone help me identify his uniform. I was always told that he was in the Royal Field Artillery but cannot find any records for him.

Any help appreciated.

Sue

It could well be Artillery.....Do you know if he was in before the Great War started and if he was discharged?
THere is a George F Grice that could fit on the Medal Index Cards.

Only 30% of records survive.
33187 Bombardier George F Grice was one possible went to France in 1914 discharged Feb 1918

Yes my grandfather was in before the war started and suffered from shell shock so may have been discharged in 1918. He suffered shell shock and depression after the war eventually committing suicide in 1927.

I cannot find this record you mention - can you help me locate it.

The man above enlisted in 1904 and was discharged in 1918 with wounds aged 32 from 189 Brigade Royal Field Artillery

As I said its hard to prove its your man unless you have any medals as they will have details on the rim/rear
