This is a link to the War Memorial's shop and their comments about a very well researched book.

I have a copy of the second edition of that book.  While I have not yet found mention of Miss DOWN, I commend the book.  I can see the first edition is listed in the National Library's catalogue http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/3353471

Cheers,  JM

Thanks for valuable info from Merlin, c more and jm. All adds to the rich story of Ruby DOWN.
We're hopefully getting closer to confirming that Ruby DOWN was aboard the Morea, on her way to join her fiancee already serving in Cairo.  Ruby married George Shapley within a month of arriving in Cairo, and stayed there until the end of the war. The work of the YMCA Anzac Hostel (which George Shapley was the head of) is well documented, but Ruby's intrepid journey to join him is still a bit of a mystery.

A trip to Canberra is on the list, so references for the AWM are being put on the agenda.
Regards,
Meredith
