What a gem of a photo. I notice that there are a lot of mugs of tea on the tables and very few bottles of something a little stronger, possibly beer.

Have found photographer up untill 1958 although address is now Newark street Greenock
all have photographer in the directory
then in 1959 still same address but no Photography beside it,
Have you thought of contacting James Watt Library they may have copies of some of his
photographs, possibly similar themes

A quick google suggests that RAF Greenock was a flying boat base during WW2.

I thought HP sauce as well Lydart. I also thought the other bottles may be beer bottles?  :-\ If someone is able to enlarge so we can read the label we may be able to identify the beer/bottles and their origins, which may give clues about location. ;)

Hi All

Could it be a party at the end of hostilities.

Could the square bottle be ( Camp Coffee )

Has anyone noticed the piles of cigarettes on the table.

Yours Aye

Thanks to everyone for their inputs and suggestions so far. It will take me a while to follow up on all these. The one point I think I can clear up quickly is that I'm pretty sure the sauce bottles are actually OK sauce which I vaguely remember was similar to HP. I'll see if I can get a clearer scan of the beer bottles. There are also what appear to be some lemonade bottles (with the rubber stoppers which screwed into the neck of the bottle) on the tables.

Some images of OK sauce to compare:
http://www.advertisingantiques.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=1118&ItemID=2263

Though it mentions WW2, I think this label looks slightly different from the one on the bottle on the table, but labels do change over the years.  :)

I think the beer and lemonade may hold more of a clue in narrowing down location of this party.  ;)
