unistalling McAffe

Could some kind soul please tell me how long it should take to unisntall this programme which was installed from manufacturer. I wish to change to a different security program

A few minutes.  Use the add/remove programs on the windows control panel.

Thanks Sue. I have done that but have been 15 minutes waiting. It is a new laptop and I am not sure whether I should close down and start again.

Message on screen say wait until it is finished uninstalling. Can you advise as it is not my laptop

I did this a while back - sorry can't remember how long it took, but as well as the uninstall I also needed to download & run a McAfee removal tool:

You should try ctrl + alt + delete - go into Task Manager and stop the application/process, or click on Shut Down. If ctrl+alt+delete does not work, leave it an hour and then you will have to switch off by pressing the power switch down until it powers off.

There should be an uninstal option under All Programs/McAfee. Using their uninstal routine is often better than Microsofts. If the owner loads another suite they tend to be very good at deleting all traces of a competitors product.

I had a problem uninstalling McAfee and installing Norton , if you can find Nortons helpline number ( might take a while) and it is Norton you are trying to install, they were very helpful and did both remotely for me.

 I have now had McAfee uninstalled and have my new security program being installed.

For the benefit of others.
Both Norton and Mc Kafee both rely on there own uninstaller.
Enter uninstall (which one) and download and uninstall.
(Be aware though once you select 'uninstall' there is no going back)- will not stop.
