sullivan /twomey marriage Clondrohid, Macroom
« on: Saturday 16 June 12 14:37 BST (UK) »

Hi ,

Am wondering if there are any Sullivans or Twomeys around the Clondrohid
townlands Glananarig or Teerbeg), Codrum, Ballyvourney or Kilnamartyra
areas who might be related to the Sullivans or Twomeys.

Catherine Sullivan married John Twomey about 1863 possibly Clondrohid or Ballyvourney.   Catherine died 15 January 1906 at Codrum Macroom ( don't know
where she is buried??) and John died at his son's house in Youghal
on 31 March 1919- probably buried at Clondrohid cemetery or St Gobnaits at
Ballyvourney.

Catherine Sullivan possibly came from Clondrohid or Codrum area.  Are there
any Sullivans  or Twomeys out there who might be related to Catherine or John?

They seem to have had seven children

John born 15 Jan 1864 ( living at Glananarig) REg District Slievereagh Union Macroom
Mary b   21 Oct 1865(Glananarig Clondrohid)  Reg district Slieveragh Union Macroom
Patrick b 17 March 1868  "           "                     "               "       "      "
Johanna b 18 Dec 1870   "          "                      "                 "

Ellen b 7 Feb 1875  living Cahirkeen ( Kilnamartyra) Reg Dis Inchigeela  (Macroom)
Michael b 14 March living Ballyvoig  (Kilnamartyra)    "            "             "
Jeremiah b 17 June 1882 Carrigaphooka    Reg Dis Inchigeela  Super Dist Macroom

They are on the 1901 census living at Teerbeg Clondrohid
Ellen died young, all of the other children went to America except one who originally
went to US married a Cork girl there and came back to live in Youghal.

In 1911 census I have John Twomey living with his nephew at Gortatubbrid
Ballyvourney. This is based on his age on death cert and working back, although
it says single and it is ten years out on his age in 1901.  Very few John Twomey's
over 65.

Could any one help with any connections to any of the above in those areas?

Thanks in advance

Mary

Hi,
I don't live in Ireland but this is my great-grandfather and great-grandmother.  I recognize the names and dates for the children.  My grandfather was Michael who was born in Ballyvoig.

You seem to have more detail than I have come up with.  Helpful to have someone fill in the blanks.  I've been looking for information on Ellen for some time now.

Are you related?

Maria

Hi Maria,

So sorry but I only saw your post today.

I am not related to this family but was helping a lady in US who may have been connected to them.

She visited Ireland a few years ago and myself and my husband took them around the locality, showed them the cemetery and Macroom town.   We had a nice day out with them.

I don't have much more information than what's above.
