What happened to all these children and can we find a death registration for James who died in Bairnsdale Hospital in 1868.
Apparently they were raised as Smiths, not Hayes.

The 1868 death of James quoted on the website would be this one:

I did find last night that Thomas Smith died at Sale in 1929. Can't see any more on him at the moment.

There is Oliver Smith died 1875, parents unknown, age 50 birthplace TENN, 1875 reg no 10858.
That would have left those boys without parents at a young age.

I have sent a message to someone on Ancestry who has a private tree with Oliver Smith in it.

I have been searching for the death of George Hayes senior with no luck. His place of birth is given as Chelsea, London in 1828. There is no place of birth on the index listing of his marriage to Ellen in 1855, I presume it's probably not on the marriage certificate either.
His full name is George Rowless Hayes, can anyone see him on the 1841 or 51 census? Knowing who his parents were would certainly help find his death.

Mothers name is probably given as Annie because Oliver SMITH married Ann MORGAN after Eleanor/Ellen died.

They certainly led interesting lives, didn't they.
It appears that Oliver senior died in 1875, so I wonder if his new wife Anne remarried, they didn't appear to have any more children after their marriage.
