Charles Weightman "Natator or Man Fish"
« on: Thursday 21 June 12 02:11 BST (UK) »
Could some kind person look in the San Francisco newspapers for the obituary or anything related to Charles Weightman. I think there was mention of his death in The San Francisco Morning Call. He died on the 5th May !887.
He was a stage performer and his act was in a tank of water in which he "ate drank and smoked a pipe" underwater.
I have his grave site as Grave 11 Tier 57 but don't know which cemetery that could be. The Funeral Director was Halsted N.Gray & Co.
I would appreciate help with this man or advice as to where I should look.
Regards Olive

Chas Weightman
Burial   05 May 1887
Place: San Francisco, San Francisco, California
Age: 41
Funeral Home: N. Gray & Co. Funeral Records
Funeral Home Place: San Francisco, San Francisco, California.

On line on familysearch.org
No cemetery given except for "San Francisco " as above.

No hard evidence yet but Grave 11 Tier 57  is a numbering system in the  Lone Mountain Cemetery, San Francisco. Lone Mountain Cemetery graves were removed and  reburied in the early 1900's primarily to Cypress Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The San Francisco public library does obituary look-ups for free.  http://sfpl.org/index.php?pg=2000049301  Maybe you can explain what you're looking for & they can see if there's anything in another newspaper.  Sometimes, funeral notices will be placed a day or two after the obituary and will note where the internment will be.

I know we have some posters who are familiar with that area, so maybe they will have an answer to your questions off the top of their heads.

Thank you to the Posters who have responded. I have put in an Obituary request and added a note to tweak the interest of the receiver. Charles' stage life was quite interesting and I have enjoyed researching it. Hope his grave was saved if it was at Lone Mountain

Although Charles was buried in San Francisco he may not have died there. His name is not on the Death Registers of San Francisco.

I wonder what that might mean. Here in New South Wales, I have known it to happen if there was an inquest into the death. On the page of the undertaker he is said to have died of phitusis. I thought that was pneumonia but have also been told it is TB Thank you for your interest. Search goes on

Thank you for linking my posts on the two forums. I had thought to do that but as a beginner was still working it out.

I checked to see if Charles Weightman had a will in England/Wales which some people overseas do have when they have some money left in England. He did not have an English will.
