William Dunlop/ Janet Lane, Falkirk

This couple had a daughter Agnes who married John Main, 1867, Falkirk. They had a son John, then a daughter who died young. Agnes died of complications related to that pregnancy. John Sr.  then remarried, to Annie Drummond, and had my grandfather, Drummond Main who came to Canada in 1906. He would mention his step brother John who he felt might have gone to Rhodesia, or possibly South Africa (it seems that he was in the army). He never knew what happened to his step brother. I have not been able to come up with any information on this man and am wondering if anyone in William Dunlop/ Janet Lane’s line might have any information. William Dunlop was a shoemaker in Falkirk.

I was going to ask if you knew what year John was born as I had found three born in Falkirk but I now know he was born in 1870 after finding a couple of old posts on other sites. I dont mean to be rude either but if you grandfather and John had the same father they would be half brothers, not step brothers.

Your best chance of getting the right couple is getting the marriage certificate from ScotlandsPeople.  Scotland's certificates give both parents names where known.

I appreciate the replies and suggestions. Also, thanks Nettie for the correction - you are right re John & Drummond being half brothers. John (Agnes Dunlop)'s parents were John Main/ Helen Mitchell. I'm hoping that I may also hear from someone in the Dunlop line.
