Eckhardt/Stallard/Myers/Cato
« on: Friday 22 June 12 22:17 BST (UK) »
I am interested in contacting anyone connected to Eliza Eckhardt , born Sydney Australia in 1831, married John Stallard in 1847 Gundaroo,Yass, NSW, then Joseph Myers 04 Jul 1857 Melbourne and finally Peter Cato 1869 New Zealand.

Children;

Matravers Paul Stallard, b. abt 1848 Australia
Maria Stallard, b. 1850 Adelaide m. Ross 03 Mar 1866 Hokitika, Westland, West Coast New Zealand
Helen Stallard b. 1853 Sydnet m. John Dick 29 May 1870 St John's Church, Westport, New Zealand

Susannah Myers b. 11 Jul 1858 North Melbourne m. Robert Whitten 187 New Zealand
Sarah Jane Myers b. 22 Jun 1860 Inglewood, Victoria, Australia m. John Anslie Montgomerie 1879 New Zealand
Joseph James Myers b.Abt Joseph James Myers d.16 Mar 1876 Reefton, Buller, West Coast, New Zealand

Other names connected to this family are Dick, Frost, Ross, Rathie

Mainly in the Westport, Reefton area of New Zealand

My connection is to Joseph Myers, I suspect Eliza & Joseph never did actually marry, as both remarried after their supposed marriage - or the both committed bigamy!

She possibly wasn't born in Sydney.

The Argus (Tuesday 29 July 1856)

MRS. ELIZA STALLARD, late of Yass, and since of Adelaide, is requested to write to her sister, M. A., Post-office, Deniliquin, Edward River

Ship Fairlie arr. Sydney December 1838

Entitlement Certificate:

John EKHART, aged 34 (in December 1837), Tailor, native of London, parents reside at  Leipsic, Germany.

Mary Ann EKHART, aged 34 (in June 1838), Straw Bonnet Maker, native of Liverpool, Lancashire, parents dead

Their children:

Caroline, 13 (in December 1837)
Eliza, 12 (in November 1838)
Mary Ann, 10 (in October 1838)

Children all native to Liverpool

The main manifest spells the name as ECKHART and mother is just "Mary".

Hello Yorkslady

  ... and welcome.   :)

I see that you've already looked at the Ancestry website but if you return, you can find a "tree" (and fellow researcher) for the family of Susannah MYERS.

Firstly though, a couple of corrections to note:

NZ Marriage

Susanah [sic] MYERS - Robert WHITTEM  -- 1876

[Surname is "WHITTEM" ... rather than Whitten. ]

... and "tree" gives bride's maiden name as "MYLES" (rather than "Myers").

[To search > enter "Robert WHITTEM" / place of death: "New Zealand"  ]

Thank you so much, all very helpful, especially the Whittem spelling. A bit confused though - is Whittem the correct one?
