Prescot in the 1911 Census
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 12:11 BST (UK) »
As part of my ongoing research into Prescot at the time of the Great War, I transcribed the 1901 census for Prescot some years ago and this is now available as a free download from the "Local History" page on the website at http://www.prescot-rollofhonour.info/local_history

I am now working my way (slowly but surely) through the 1911 census and the first part of that is now available. It is my transcription of the Enumerator Index. Whilst it is of limited use for genealogy purposes, as it only shows the head of household (Mr Smith, Mrs Jones, etc), it is interesting and useful because it is in the order in which the Enumerators walked around the town and also it includes properties which were uninhabited, such as shops, stables, workshops, etc. As such, it gives a good feel for the layout of the town at that time.

As I'd like to get an idea of the level of interest in this document, rather than allowing free downloads I am only sending it to people who actually request it, though obviously they can then send it anywhere they wish !!

Ping me an email to mail@prescot-rollofhonour.info and I'll send a copy as soon as I access the email.

(Happy for the email address to be left in here as it's all over t'interweb anyway and I have a good spam filter )

I'm delighted to say that since I posted this, 53 people have downloaded the 1901 census from my website and 8 have emailed me to ask for a copy of the 1911 Enumerator Summary.
