Duggan Family
« on: Sunday 01 July 12 19:27 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on John Duggan (born about 1821 in Killenaule, Tipperary)?

He emigrated to England and I first locate him in the 1851 England Census in Rochdale, Lancashire. He married Ann Riley (born abt 1837) from Penkridge, Staffordshire. He was a tailor journeyman. His children were, Edward, Ellen, Thomas, Michael, John, Ann and Catherine.

Any information on him in Ireland or this branch of the Duggan family in general would be gratefully received...

Thanks in advance!

Pam (nee Duggan)

Gosh one of the family in Killenaule in 1901 is a  tailor too, and one a seamstress, so might have been a family tradition

duggan killenaule

Hi Tara

Thanks for the message. We'd forgotten about the father's name and occupation being on the marriage certificate - have sent for it this morning - thanks for suggesting it!  :)

Indeed, think there may be a connection between the professions - jobs like Tailors do seem to be kept in families.

Thanks again!
Pam

Hi Pam,

Interested to read your post - I think we're related.

John Duggan was my ggg-grandfather. His daughter, Anne, married Frederick Stevens and lived in Nuneaton, Warks, where they are both buried. My grandfather once showed me a letter from John's mother who was then boarding with a GP in Killenaule - unfortunately I no longer have access to it but I remember that she mentioned living in poverty.

Can I ask whether you were able to find anything out about the Duggans of Killenaule?

Regards

Ian
