Your welcome, in fact in 1881 on the actual image it looks like it could say Florance, not Clarance

Hi
I found the reference on Freebmd under James Macarthy, there is also a birth reg for a James Macarthy  Dec 1874  Shoreditch.
I know the spelling is different but thought it might be a possible.
No firm evidence that James Macarthy reg September quarter is your James, only that it was registered in Whitechapel, you d need the certificate to be sure.
I can t see a bap record on Ancestry London records unfortunately.
Looking again at the 1881 census there are entries that could be the James' mentioned above so probably not you james
Best wishes,
Cathy

Hi Cathy

Just to let you know - Two certs came in the other day and both are wrong, I have requested a search with the GRO so fingers crossed.

If only I had Susan/nah's maiden name to track back on.  I have found 4 susans born in Wapping around that time, however no links to the Mc/Macarthy's isde  :-[

Thanks

Tom

The McCarthy's side has become an annoying itch at the moment.

I have now discovered via a sibling that James McCarthy's mother is a Susannah Newman, however I cannot find a James McCarthy linked to a Newman for 1874-1876 or even a marriage between Newman and a Florence McCarthy, I have tried FreeBMD and Ancestry and no luck with either.  I have also spoke to Tower Hamlets BMD who can find the sibling to James birth certificate but not James himself.

<Sighs>

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
