COMPLETED Frederick Bateman - Wife's maiden
« on: Saturday 07 July 12 00:13 BST (UK) »
Need someone to please help me find Frederick Bateman's (b. 1835) (d.1884) wife's maiden name. I know her first name is probably Elizabeth and I think maiden is probably Madely but I'm uncertain also I have her suspected birth/death dates as 1838/1881 both around then but could be +/- 5-10 years. Frederick's father was John Bateman (b.1797) and mother Mary A. Bateman (b.1807). I also don't know Mary A Bateman's maiden. I can tell you death dates for John and Mary if this helps!

Having followed Frederick from 1841/51 here he is in 1871. A base from which to start looking for wife Elizabeth's maiden name. I also note Frederick's father John was born in Wrenbury, Cheshire and his mother Mary A in Drayton, Shropshire.

Raglan Street fenton Staffordshire
Frederick Bateman 36 Potter's ?? born Goldston Shropshire

Frederick Bateman's son should be called Edwin Bateman (b. 1876) in Fenton.

Going off the birth of Frederick and Elizabeth's first child Mary A c1864 in Staffordshire I looked on FreeBMD for a marriage of a Frederick Bateman to Elizabeth ? 1861 - 1865 no county selected. Only this one came up. On same page
Frederick Bateman and Elizabeth Davies Wolstanton Dec 1/4 1863 vol 6b page 151.

Where did you get the information that Fredk married an Elizabeth Madely?

There is a marriage of an Elizabeth Madeley registered West bromwich in Dec 1/4 1863 vol 6b page 1103 but unfortunately she is the only person listed. Usually there are four. I will see if I can match her up with any other entries.

I don't really know where I got that Madely info it was the only piece I could find on Ancestry.co.uk your idea seems to be a bit more legit.

The only marriage of a Bateman I can find in Dec 1/4 1863 W Bromwich as a pssible match to Elizabeth Madeley is a Thomas Bateman but he is vol 6b page 694 and then FreeBMD question whether W Brom is the correct district for this record.

I think Elizabeth Davies is a better bet. :)

There is a William age 20 on this 1881 census born Cheshire so where was he in 1871. Mary A wasn't their first child as I thought. Is he Fredk's child or an illegitimate son of Elizabeth's?
