IGNORE all this completely different family. They are in 1881 and Emma is a widow then
So what is happening in 1891
RG12/2164/1118/17
49 Podmore Street Burslem Cobridge
Eliz(J)a Campbell head 48 Sawyer Cheadle Staffs
Emma 50 wife Potter's vidgnet liner Smallthorne Staffs
George Bateman stepson 20 Potters turne Burslem
John 18 stepson Potter's presser Burslem
Edwin 13 stepson potter's presser Burslem

If these Bateman children are Elijah's stepsons then his wife should be Elizabeth born Cheshire widow of Frederick but she is Emma born Staffs.

Marriage FreeBMD. On same page
Elijah Campbell and Emma Bateman March 1/4 1883 Wolstanton vol 6b page 131

So is Emma really Elizabeth? Why would she change her birth place on the census?NOT your Elizabeth and children

There is a death of a Frederick Bateman Dec 1/4 1884 Stoke on Trent age 50 vol 6b page 158

Age and place is correct. BUT if Emma is Elizabeth then she married Elijah before Fredk's death.

Have to take a closer look at Emma.

As said in prevous post NOT your family.

Getting back to John 1797 and Mary A 1807 because their first 4 children were born in Shropshire, as was Mary A, I think it is highly probable that John and Mary A were married there.

Looks good thank you I've been searching for a while for Mary Ann's maiden and it probably is Taylor by looking at that. Might make it easier to go even further back using parish records.

The only marriage of a Bateman I can find in Dec 1/4 1863 W Bromwich as a pssible match to Elizabeth Madeley is a Thomas Bateman but he is vol 6b page 694 and then FreeBMD question whether W Brom is the correct district for this record.

I think Elizabeth Davies is a better bet. :)

My great grandfather George Davies 1863-1923 married Elizabeth Madeley  1863-1943 could this by chance be the Elizabeth Madeley in your post
