Thomas Higgins Born abt b1816 in County Mayo

I know that there is not a lot to go on but I am trying to research the above.

He was born abt 1816 in County Mayo and married Julia (born 1821) in County Mayo. By 1851 they
were living in Wolverhampton in England.  A son James was born in County Mayo in 1836. So they moved to England after that.

I am particularly interested  in Julia's surname and any information on where in County Mayo they came from.

No, all children were born in Ireland.

since civil records started earlier in England, it would have been a good way to find out Julia's surname. It's not going to be easy to locate or confirm, any baptism or marriage records in Mayo without either a location or Julia's maiden name.

What are the names and years of birth for the children ?

It's definitely worth tracing James and the other children through all possible census returns, to see if they ever give a more detailed place of birth. The later returns often show better detail..

Also worth checking on any Higgins or other Mayo relatives sharing the house of your family, or living nearby, and following them if possible through English census and civil records.

Sometimes RC marriages can mention more details.. possibly even a note of a letter of freedom from their parish of baptism...

Hi,

are they the family with several children living with James Higgins and family and Patrick Higgins and family?
 Such a big family but there may be someone there as Shane says who in later censuses gives a more specific place of birth.
