1841 Census Scotland Perthshire
« on: Monday 23 May 05 16:14 BST (UK) »
I am researching Alexander Stewart, gardener, and Elizabeth Rogers, both born in the early 1820s. They were later married in Copford, Essex in 1846 where they had settled. They might not have moved to Essex until after the 1841 census.
Alexander's father James, was a farmer; his wife may have been called Ellen or Christine. Elizabeth's father, also Alexander, is described as a stonemason on the marriage certificate.
Any help gratefully received.

Hi there -

This was the only family I could find and the only family with an
Elizabeth and father named Alex (?) Rogers.
Literally, hundreds of Stewarts. Would need a bit more info. to narrow it down -
birth year of  James Stewart and son Alexander Stewart might help.

Good luck in your research!

Kate

Dear Miss Kate
Many thanks for your lookup. I think you have found the right Rogers family. I have found on IGI that Christian Wilson married Alexander Rogers in 1815 in Errol.

I am having a problem with Alexander Stewart's origins. He was born in 1821, possibly in Redgorton or Perth itself (but the 1861 English census has Stirling!). He died in Colchester 1895.

An interesting point: I have a copy of the 1846 Copford marriage certificate dated  4 October. On IGI I found a record dated 2 October for Kilspindie, Perth. Perhaps this was his birthplace.

Thanks again for your help.
Malcolm Stewart (sorry if this is a duplicate message)
