Blank marriage certifcate forms
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 23:30 BST (UK) »
I have some pre 1900 photocopies of marriage certificates  that I copied from the original registers that are on microfiche at our local Library, unfortunately the registers after 1900 are only in the original register form and are held by the Lancashire County Records office.
I would like to add all the certificates I can to my Family History file but I don't want to pay for copies. Does anyone know if you can buy/download blank marriage certificate forms so that all the details from the registers can be written in.

I have a feeling they don't hand out blank official forms for security reasons, but if you want them purely for personal use perhaps you could scan one and remove the names etc in Photoshop (other picture editors are available  ;) ) to create a blank which you could print out and fill in as required

Or you could just create a form from scratch in a wordprocessor. Using the right fonts and layout, it would look similar to the real thing.

You certainly can't get blank certificate forms - each one is uniquely numbered (top right-hand-corner) and the GRO keeps a strict tally on how they are used.  'Spoilt' forms (those filled in incorrectly by staff) have to be returned to the GRO so there are no accounting gaps.

If blanks were available - identity fraudsters would have a field day

I don't mean downloads of the original documents, I realise that would be open to all kinds of Idendity fraud, I mean facsimile of documents that you can fill in the details. Thankyou Mike175 I will probably give your suggestion a go! :)

Fridayschild, Why not just record the info in your own format?  I would stop and think about whether what you are suggesting is legally acceptable if I were you.

I made my own form in MS Word to make it quick and easy to write down details when I have only one day at the records office to look up loads of records. It saves loads of time, makes sure I write down all the information, and saves me from having to get copies of every document.

I've attached the form I made, feel free to print and use it.

Many many thanks Alexander, that is just what I was looking for and I'm sure that it is perfectly legal to document information in this way, as I said in my first post I have made copies of the certificates that are on microfiche/microfilm at my local library, but I wanted to have similar copies of the post 1900 ones that are still in register format....and now I can!
Thankyou once again  :-*

It wouldn't be legal to produce blank certificates.  Although The Crown is fairly relaxed about copying populated BMD certificates, they do make it perfectly clear that the reproduction of the Royal Arms logo is only permitted as an integral part of a certificate.
