The physical Yorkshire /Lancashire boundary as separate counties and the Church borders were different!! see Richmond  map Cheshire of York

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Starkeys ;D My favourite subject.

The Grace Starkie of Padiham looks to have married a James Pollard at Padiham in 1826 so I think that you can rule her out.

Unfortunately the IGI have one of their annoying gaps in the Barnoldswick records 1777 to 1812 but the Society of Genealogists have a typed transcript with index which covers 1537 to 1837.

Other than that maybe somebody in the Barnoldswick area could do a look up for you and since the registers are deposited at the Lancashire Records office maybe you could contact them or ask on the Rootschat Lancashire board for a lookup as well.

The Starkeys do go back earlier in Barnoldswick and they did migrate from the Padiham area before that so if you can find Mark Starkey's family don't be surprised if that is where the trail leads you.

Hi Stu (is the 'sstarr' short for Super Star!!)

That's a really helpful piece of information about the gap in the Barnoldswick records - I hadn't realised that, or even thought to check.

There is a Mark Starkie born about 1806 in Barnoldswick on the census records - who could be Grace's brother I suppose. If someone has the Barnoldswick records, or could do a look up for Aussie Roy - that would solve the problem.

There is a website

http://www.oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/

This is all about Barnoldswick - and it has a Forum. At one time there was a chap named Ken on that Forum who volunteered to do look ups of parish records. Whether he is still on there I don't know -- but it may be worth while, Aussie Roy -- for you to join that Forum and ask if anyone can help with baptisms in the early 1800s.

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Just found this address on google maps

"Yorkshire Dales Flyfishing Ltd

19 West Field Road, Barnoldswick, North Yorkshire BB18 5LD"

So the  Barnoldswick Parish register maybe be held at Northallerton Archives North Yorkshire or Manchester archives.

Manchester, Colne , Skipton or Leeds libraries may have copies on micro film of the register and are cheaper to do searches, also may do free half hour look ups. SAE sent for a copy after contacting them is about £1 ( 3 aussy dollars)
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi ALL

Grace Starkie born in 1805 in Barnoldswick is the daughter of Mark Starkie (b 1769 in Salterforth to 1823 death). His wife is Elizabeth Edmondson (1776 to 1836). Mark is the son of William Starkie and Grace Nelson (marriage 04 Oct 1764 at St Mary-Le-Gill, Barnoldswick). Grace marries Stephen Myers on 08 Jun 1840 at St Mary-Le-Gill, Barnoldswick.....Stephen's second marriage. Grace's eldest daughter IS Margaret Starkie although the reputed father is James Edmondson (according to her birth entry). Ann (the second daughter) is to Stephen and Grace. I have more but hope that this helps!  :)
