There is a record of their son in Familysearch:-

Children of Ellis and Catherine Edwards:-

Griffith - 12th July 1828 - St Mary, Dolgellau
Catherine - 31 Oct 1829 - St Mary, Dolgellau
Margaret - 30 Dec 1835 - non-conformist
Gwen - 30 Sep 1849 - St Mary, Dolgellau

In 1841, Griffith seems to be living next door but his surname is given as Ellis - possibly living with his grandmother

If this is the correct family, the house is still there - near the Cross Foxes Inn

However, this doesn't tie in with being born in Llandderfel

There is a possible marriage of Griffith from Llandderfel who married a Margaret Jones in 1852 in Llanfwrog, Denbighshire, but it gives his father as Edward Edwards.

In the censuses, Margaret is from Derwen, about six miles from Llanfwrog.

Regards,
David

Thankyou so much for your help

Griffith did marry Margret Jones from  Deneb in 1852
This must be the same one i am tracing. I can follow him from 1851 until his death but apart from his baptism nothing.I am just tring to put the peaces together of his parents, grandparents and his childhood
Do you have an address for the house as you said it is still there today?
I wonder why he had to live with his grandmother?

Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk

Leave the search box blank and enter the coordinates 276160 and 315886

This will take you to Pen y Bryn in Garthgynfawr

You can see more detail by selecting one of the old maps at the right-hand side. The 1:2500 series are the best. It might take a while for the old map to come into focus.

On the 1841 census, 80 year old Margaret Ellis is the main householder. Presumably, she is the mother of Catherine. With her are Griffith Ellis, who could be Griffith Edwards, and Anne Edwards. Ellis and Catherine are in part of the same house, as is the family of John Ellis, possibly Catherine's brother. Often, children are listed at a relatives house, possibly just staying the night or sometimes helping to look after the relative.

Griffith Edwards married Margaret Jones on 26th October 1852 in Llanfwrog.
Griffith is 23 and Margaret 19. Griffith's father is Edward Edwards, a butcher, so not the same person as the son of Ellis and Catherine.

In 1851, Griffith Edwards of Llandderfel is a servant in Tre Llanerch, Denbighshire. He is in the same house as Edward Edwards, a farmer, who was born in Derwen, the same as Margaret Jones.

Griffith and Margaret are in Bersham, Denbighshire in 1861 and 1871, Brymbo in 1881, Bersham in 1891 and 1901.

Regards,
David

Do you think that Griffith Edwards who married Margaret Jones is the right person?

I can't find much about them, except that Griffith appears on the 1851 census.

Margaret gives her father as John Jones, a labourer. Her abode is given as Galchog, which is near Llanfwrog.

Griffith gives his abode as Ty isa'r Cefn, which is also near Llanfwrog, and near to where he was in 1851.

The witnesses were John Davies and Harriet Jones.
