Here's Hans Nielsen's birth to Dragoon Niels Hansen Vestre Spigset and Lisbeth Pedersdatter bapt. 13 Jan 1731 bottom left and corner left page.

Here is Dragoon Niels Hansen and Lisbeth Pedersdatter's marriage 17 July 1725. It's on the right hand page right column. He is from Spigset and she from Korsmor. On the left hand column left page I can see a couple of banns recorded.

They are betrothed on the 21 May

Left hand column of right page at the top. He is in Major Orning's company. Then I think it says with permission. I am not sure what is says between Hansen and Spigseth I'm not so hot on the gothic lettering. It is probably a very fancy V and reading Vestre Spigseth.

 If Nils Hansen was born on Spigseth, it is possible that Nils is the son of Hans Mathiasen. You would need to find a marriage

Niels Hansen was born to Hans Mattisen Vestre Spigset and Ragnhild Enersdatter bapt. 1 Mar 1705 according to family search

As in 1701 he has a step son Ole Nilsen, maybe they named their child after the dead ex husband.

The actual register does not give his patronymic just Hans Vestre Spigseth

It's the first baptism recorded in March on the right hand page right column towards the bottom

There is the betrothal at the top of the left hand corner of the left page. He is a soldier with Major ??ssers Company.

Hello Kaysii -

I almost hate to ask this question but a great deal hinges on it, I think, as a potential 'bone of contention' might well arise.... but, I have been told by a contact in Norway (not Rootschat member) that Per Hansen, son of Hans Nilson (ex Nordstunn of Spikkset who became the first crofter of Nordvestaberget)  became the first crofter of the adjacent Overvestaberget sometime before 1783 when his first child was born there. No documented proof was presented at the time when this was claimed -  probably because it was lost in the midst of a whole lot of discussion about the family and the settlement of the valley of Vestaberg.

Is there anyway you have the time and inclination to look at any register/documentation of around that date which might reveal if this was truly the case, please? Sadly, I am loathed to go back to this person and ask for evidence of what he stated..................

I'm sorry I don't have access to any Bygde books which describe the history of the farms. You will either have to ask Jan when he comes back or go on a Norwegian discussion forum.

Alternatively you could use the link that Jan provided you about Vestaberg at the Sor Odal museum and click on mer info and you will get an email address. If you explain in very simple English what you need to know, he is probably better placed to help you.

If you put in Spikset and then one such as vestre you will get a map of the local farms with their current names. You can see the relationship with each other if you move around the graph and you can also get the satellite image if you click on Norge i bilder.
