William Fraser 1782-1849 Invernesshire
« on: Thursday 19 July 12 08:18 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace parents of William Fraser 1782 (Dunlichity)-1849 (Daviot).  Married Margaret MacIntosh (1791 Dunlichity-1857 Inverness).  Pretty sure fathers name is William also but thats all I can find.   Im new to this but have been looking on ancestry and cant seem to get past these two people.  Any help is grateful.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat  :)

How certain are you of William's birthdate as there is a baptism showing for a William Fraser in Dunlichity on 19 November 1775.  Parents are recorded as William Fraser and Isabel Dunbar.

If you have a list of William and Margaret's children in date order, you might be able to work out the probable names of their parents, as many used the traditional naming conventions.

I wonder if this is the family in 1841 (men first!)

Glenbeg, Daviot & Dunlichity

William Fraser, 60, farmer
John, 20
Angus, 15
Donald, 12
Margaret, 50
Rebecca, 27
Marjory, 19
Duncan McBean, 6

Note that in the 1841 census ages of 15 and over  were rounded down into 5 year age bands - so 60 could be 60-64, etc.

Interested in the Duncan Mcbean boy. When did Mary and William marry?

The 1841 census  entry that I've posted looks good. I see that William McBean and Mary Fraser had a son Duncan baptised Daviot & Dunlichity on 20 April 1835 - as your posting  :)

That one looks more likely with a daughter Rebecca  - I was checking for Isabels  ;D

The 1841 census entries are the correct families  :)

Just checked the original entry for Angus b. 1826.

It  reads

'Angus son to Wm McGlashan alias Fraser and Margaret McIntosh his spouse in Glenbeg'

So the William McGlashen to William McGlashen and Rebecca McGillevray, 1778 look like the correct one
