Kate Crowley Dublin middle/ late 1800's
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 13:35 GMT (UK) »

Firstly, thank you Shane for highlighting the Irish genealogy site in the thread about St Andrew's it helped me unravel my Kate Crowley mystery a little more. This post is really just to ask if anyone has come across the family before  or can point me in another direction. I am really impatient for the 1901 census  :)

Catherine Crowley married Michael Regan at St Andrew's on the 7th May 1861. they both lived in Maguinniss Court and her Father's name was Christopher. They had at least 3 children

Jane 1862

Michael 1864

John  1868 - 104 Townsend Street

A Patrick was baptised 1866 his parents given as Michael and Sarah Crowley  104 Townsend St

In 1870 Catherine Regan , a widow, married Patrick Reid  her father was given as Christopher Regan.

Patrick Christopher Reid 1871 mother Kate Crowley ( address as marriage)

Christopher 1872

Joanna 1873

Mary Jane 1876

mary Catherine 1881

CATHERINE 1878

and John  parent's  Patrick and Kate Reid (same address as Catherine 1878) (my grandfather)

Catherine and Patrick were deceased by 1908 when John married

Shane thank you again for highlighting site had been assuming Regan was maiden name and Crowley married now it seems the other way would people agree.

I was drawn to topic by the link to St Andrew's and tried the website Shane suggested which I hadn't seen before and was very useful.

Crowley, Regan and Reid: mid-late 19th century
« Reply #3 on: Thursday 19 July 12 15:07 BST (UK) »
I am looking in vain for the birth or baptism of Catherine Crowley as well as other information about her family.

Her parents were Christopher and Jane.

In 1861 she married Michael Regan and had a family: Jane (1862-64), Michael (1864), Patrick (1866) John and possibly Joseph (twins? 1868). John died when he was about 2.

In 1870 Catherine married Patrick Reid and had further children including Joanna (1873) and Katherine (1878) whom I cannot trace further. The youngest child John (1879-1918) was my grandfather.

Both Catherine's marriages were at St Andrew's Westland Row.

Just hoping someone else might be researching one of these families.
Thank you, Paula

some questions on Catherine -

do you know roughly when she was born ?

have you located her on the 1901 census ?

p.s. how do you know her mother's name ?

Thanks for replying Shane.

Cannot identify her in 1901- cannot even identify my grandfather.

I would estimate 1830-40 as DOB.

Her parents names are on church records viewed on the irishgenealogy site.

Although on her second marriage both her surname and her father's is given as Regan.

Will try census again :)

I looked at the transcripts of the two marriage records on the IrishGenealogy website - and saw just father's names, but just found that there's a second transcript of the 1861 marriage, along with an image...

  Marriage 1 - 1861
Marriage 1 - 2nd transcript with image  (Fixed link)

  2nd Marriage

The image shows the parents are alive and currently living in St. Margaret's - which is in North Co. Dublin near the airport.

Thanks  for the clarification Shane,

I wasn't sure about St Margaret's. Thought it might have said  Mcguinniss.
