If the family in 1851 are the correct family -- in 1841 they are living in Sithey -- father is William, a Tin Miner, age shown as 31. On this census the ages are supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years, but it doesn't look as though that was done in William's case.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the fossicking........he was born, admittedly 1846, in "Illogan", a stone's throw from Redruth in 1843 which the FreeBMD quotes.  So on the balance of probabilities one and the same person and with the parental details my Biography is now developing.

And whither the "incorrigible rogue" after 02/03/1864?    That remains the question!!

For now,

I don't know if this is your Emanuel Blight - but there are several articles in the Australian newspapers concerning someone of that name getting into all sorts of trouble!

See;
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q="emanuel+blight"&exactPhrase=&anyWords=&notWords=&l-textSearchScope=*ignore*|*ignore*&fromdd=01&from

This is from the 'Trove' site where Australian newspapers can be searched for free.

An Emmanuel Blight with a birth year of about 1843 - also died in Australia in Kooringa, South Australia in 1886.

Again I don't know if he is yours. I only searched a period of the newspapers --using a search term of "emanuel blight" in quotes. You may wish to extend your search and read the articles - just to see if there are any clues as to whether it is the same Emmanuel/Emanuel.

You just beat me to it with that, June!  He's buried in Burra Cemetery and in the neighbouring plot an Elizabeth Blight was buried.

Sorry Dazey,

I hate it when that happens to me, so I understand how you feel --- I didn't know the burial details though!

His birth was registered at Redruth, rather than he was born there and the Redruth registration district included Illogan

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/redruth.html

I've had a look for his siblings as well and only John Henry is obvious in later census entries

Sister Elizabeth Jane married in 1872 & the cert is on the opc site, so you could try contacting the person researching the family

Can't find her after her marriage either. It's possible that the siblings emigrated. The tin industry was declining at that time and many Cornish miners left for mining districts around the world. Australia would be quite a likely destination.

Oh - it's no problem - great minds..and all that  ;)  Poor Elizabeth died in the same year - whilst cleaning out her husband's hospital room!  I'm pretty sure it's him.  Think perhaps this calls for a query on the Australia board now!

Oh Wow! I assume Elizabeth's death was in the newspaper on Trove -- I didn't read all the articles. If it's the same Emanuel he has the distinction of gaining infamy on both sides of the world!
